With the turn of the seasons, it’s important to remember that you may want to adjust our support mechanisms. In this article, we will cover not only the herbal changes that can be helpful, but also the diet and auxiliary practices that support the success of those herbs.
DIET
The winter diet of cozy, heavier, sweeter foods that are key to keeping you comfy and warm makes way for the new growth and greens of spring. Lightening your diet and moving away from sweets and fruits helps your body clear out some of that stagnation you might be feeling.
Traditional Indian medicine, AKA Ayurveda, invites us to adjust our diets and habits in response to cyclical and seasonal changes. Ayurveda may seem complicated, but the system works symbolically and elementally to bring about physical, spiritual, and mental changes! In the winter, we are inward, regenerating, and staying safe from the cold. When spring comes, the "snow" (whether or not you have it in your area) melts, the greens sneak out of the ground, and the gardens bloom as the sun comes up - but there is no fruit yet - nothing sweet is growing - just bitter and fresh greens. The body needs its "internal sun" as well! We do this by increasing the HEAT of our medicines, and foods, and practices--
This might look like:
