The US Military begins testing for psychedelic mushrooms in October 2025 - what you should know

The US Department of Defense will begin testing troops for psilocin - the active metabolite in psychedelic mushrooms.

What that means, and what it doesn’t.

If you’re on active duty and you’ve been MycroDosing or considering it, here’s the plain talk: starting October 1, 2025, psilocin (the active metabolite of psilocybin) will be added to the Department of Defense’s drug-testing panel. That means service members can be tested directly for psilocin. Assume this applies to you. Please be cautious. We want your healing and your career to remain intact. - However, the reality is more than likely nuanced for those who are only MycroDosing (100-300mg by weight of mushroom less than 5x a week). Read on for what we know so far.

The Human Picture

This news may feel heavy. You’re not alone.

In 2022, we lost 6,407 veterans — about 17.6 lives a day — to suicide. That’s why so many are fighting for treatments that actually make a difference.

In research settings, psilocybin has shown real promise as a treatment depression and distress. Surveys show that mushrooms carry very low risks of causing acute medical harm. It’s not a miracle, or a match for everyone, but when people prepare, receive support, and properly integrate the experience, insights can last far longer than the 3–6 hours of acute effects.

If You’re Struggling Right Now

If you’re serving today, here’s what matters:

  • Psilocin testing is coming online. Be cautious, stay informed.

  • If you’re in a heavy place, help is here right now.

  • Emergency: If you feel unsafe, dial 911.

  • Confidential crisis line: Dial 988, then press 1 to connect with the Veterans Crisis Line.

  • You can also reach out to your VA or on-base resources — you don’t have to carry this alone.

Compliant Alternatives You Can Use

Psilocybin may be off-limits, but you’re not out of options. Many service members and veterans find day-to-day support in functional mushrooms which are completely legal and non-psychedelic.

MycroCalm™ Line (elixirs and capsules • NON-Magic)

→ Can help calm anxiety (this is not a medical statement)

  • MycroCalm™ Grounded (Elixir): Use 1 tsp in teas. Reported to catalyze a calming effect within 30 minutes. (Do not combine with caffeine, or cut regular caffeine use in half at minimum.)

  • MycroCalm™ Zen (Capsules): Take 2× daily to strengthen the nervous system’s responses when used consistently. (Do not combine with caffeine, or cut regular caffeine use in half at minimum.)

MycroFlow™ Line (elixirs and capsules • NON-Magic)

→ Supports stress relief, balance, focus & "flow" and reduces irritability and anger

  • MycroFlow™ Focused (Elixir): Stir ½ -1 tsp into coffee, tea, or smoothies up to 2× daily to support attention, memory, and balanced energy.

  • MycroFlow™ Resilience (Capsules): Take 1–2 capsules daily, 1-2x to improve stress tolerance and ride emotional waves with more ease.

MycroActive™ Line (elixirs and capsules • NON-Magic)

→ Boosts energy, motivation & mood elevation and assists in combating procrastination

  • MycroActive™ Motivated (Elixir): Use ½-1 tsp in a warm drink up to 2× daily for a gentle lift and get-it-done energy.

  • MycroActive™ Clarity (Capsules): Take 1–2 capsules daily 1-2x for steady mood and daytime energy.

Choose third-party tested products, check your unit’s supplement rules, and if you’re on medications or have health conditions, talk with a clinician before starting.

MycroDosing Alternatives to Consider:

While it is possible to test for LSD within a day of use, and with a high enough dose, we are currently unaware of any technology with a low enough detection limit to pick up the  5-10mcg described in the Fadiman protocol, though hair testing has been shown to pick up trace amounts. The military has not reported LSD tests in its standard panel because of how quickly it leaves the system, and the limits of detection on the test being unlikely to catch MycroDosing. It is also worth noting that small amounts of mescaline are not currently listed as something being tested for. Make your choices based on your own internal authority and your own research.
